A 10-hour (or longer) layover in Istanbul

Our guarantee: We have you back at the airport 2h 30 before departure. If your inbound flight is delayed, we reschedule or cancel at no cost.

From ten hours the layover stops being a sprint. With 4h 45 or more in the city you can do the Old City properly — Topkapı Palace included — add a public Bosphorus ferry crossing, and, from 12 hours, cross to Kadıköy on the Asian side.

The full Old City

Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia (inside, if you choose), Topkapı Palace with its courtyards and Bosphorus terrace, the Basilica Cistern, and the Grand and Spice Bazaars. Your guide sequences the ticketed sites to dodge the worst queues and keeps the return time fixed.

Optional Bosphorus ferry

A scheduled city ferry from Eminönü gives you the Bosphorus from the water for the price of a transit card — no private boat needed. It is optional and weather-dependent; your guide will say on the day whether it fits.

Kadıköy — from 12 hours

If you have twelve hours or more and would rather see where Istanbul eats than where it prays, a ferry to Kadıköy for the food market and the Moda shoreline is possible from IST. We do not offer it on shorter layovers because the crossing plus the return to IST eats too much of the margin.

Food

With this much time there is a proper break — somewhere with a Bosphorus view, chosen on the day for your taste and the route. At your own cost; we never name or commit to a specific restaurant.

Where we meet and where we return you

Driver with a name sign at IST arrivals; guide in Sultanahmet. We return you to IST 2h 30 before departure — the long day does not change the buffer.

Don't book this if…

  • You would rather rest: a 10-hour layover is also long enough for an airport hotel, and we will say so if that suits you better.
  • You want a private yacht cruise — that is a separate product, not a layover tour.
  • Your inbound is a long-haul arriving late at night: most sites are closed, and we will suggest the Bosphorus-side alternative instead.

Turkish Airlines' free Touristanbul tour — how is this different?

Touristanbul is Turkish Airlines' free group tour for passengers connecting through Istanbul Airport on a single Turkish Airlines ticket. It is a good programme. Ours is different in five ways: it is private to your party; you choose the route; there is no fixed departure slot to match; your guide is licensed and speaks your language; and if your inbound flight is late we re-plan around the hours you still have instead of leaving without you. If you qualify for Touristanbul and its slot matches your flights, take it — we will say so.

If your connection is at Sabiha Gökçen, read the SAW page — the routing is different and Kadıköy market is quieter on Sunday mornings; ferries thin out in winter.

Can I go to the Asian side on a layover?

Only from about 12 hours at IST, or at any length from Sabiha Gökçen, where Kadıköy is the natural choice.

No. Your guide checks queues on the day; entrance fees are paid on site and are not included in the tour price.
